THE LEON
LIGHT
(For Leon Thomas)

Into the neon night
Is the Leon Light -
Midnight starlight on a sunlit soundstage -
Spiritsongs of blues, ballads, bop, and beyond.
Listen to Leon -
Icon of incandescent innovation
Touched by the traditional tones of triumph,
Listen to Leon -
Look at the Light.
Within the gates of grassroots glory
Leon lived&laughed&loved -
A wise man walking on the warrior side of the street
A Light throughout the day; a Light through the night
A Light in Lenox Terrace; A Light in Lenox Lounge
An always answer to constant community calls
A ghetto Light; a global Light.
Listen to Leon;
Look at the Light.
Legions listened to Leon's lyrical Light
& legions listened to Leon's liberation Light.
But the Light bill was never paid
As Leon's Light kept shining through time & transition
Our procrastination turning into posthumous payment
As we became the song symbolizing the Deity demand
That we share our Light throughout the land
Making the Leon Light and the Legion Light combine
As Leon sings, "Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."
